Why Hire A Professional Colorist For Quality Interior Painting?

The interior and exterior appeal of any building is subject to many factors: structure, added construction elements, aesthetics, and the usability factor.  Choosing the right paint pallet can make a huge difference in the aesthetics of any space. But choosing the right paint and colors will require comprehensive research and consideration. After all, who hasn’t experienced picking a color from a sample swatch only for the color to look all wrong once applied to the wall?  That’s why a professional paint colorist with years of experience is invaluable.

The Pros Of Hiring An Interior Painting Contractor

The formidable advantages of getting the color scheme just right and the significance of hiring a professional interior painting contractor are detailed below.

•    Which Paint Should You Choose?

The paint comes in the form of oil or latex and a variety of sheens. Latex paint is the most preferred paint because of its ease of clean up and long-lasting durability. It also tends to be more fade resistant and breathes better than oil, resulting in less blistering of the paint. However, oil-based paint is great for priming real wood moldings and trim as it tends to seal stains and knots from the wood better than a latex paint wood.

•    Which Sheen Should I Select?

The glossier the paint, the easier it is to clean up. If you have small children and the room you are painting has high traffic or tends to get grease on the wall as in a kitchen, opt for high gloss sheen as you can easily wipe the wall down with a damp sponge. High gloss is also great for trim, complementing the flatter sheen of your walls.

Semi-gloss would also be a good choice for kitchens and baths and trim providing you with ease of wash-ability and less shine than the gloss. It is also a slightly cheaper option than the high gloss finish. Satin sheens have a satiny smooth finish to them and could also be used in kitchens, bathrooms, and hallways.

If you have walls with lots of imperfections, select a flat or matte paint. The downside to this paint is that it does not stand up well to cleaning and tends to show dirt more. Probably the most popular sheen is eggshell, which hides imperfections like a flat finish does, but is easier to wash and more durable and smoother to the touch. This type of paint is a good choice for most rooms as it seems to have the best of both the flat and glossy worlds.

•    Which Color Should I Choose?

Well, that depends if you want a subtle and soothing look or a more elegant look or a vibrant look. You can change the look and feel of any exterior and interior room with a little planning and some color to suit your needs.

A good rule of thumb is to remember the color wheel. The primary colors are: red, yellow and blue. These are on the color wheel at 12:00, 4:00 and 8:00 respectively. Combining any of these will give you a secondary color (i.e. Purple, Orange). Colors near each other on the color wheel such as blue and purple are analogous to each other and will allow one color to stand out more. Colors opposite each other on the color wheel such as green and red are complementary to one another and will nicely play off each other. Staying within the same shade of color (i.e. Greens) will give you a subtle and soothing look. Painting with cool colors such as blues, greens and purples make small rooms appear larger and airier while colors such as reds, yellows, and orange will give a room a more vibrant appearance. You can vary the warmth even with a red or yellow by choosing muted shades of those colors such as pink, peach or a buttery yellow. Warm colors have cool ones as their complementary colors while cool colors have warm complements. Shades are either pure or vibrant, muted (which are less intense than their vibrant counterparts) or shaded (the darker colors in the same color scheme).

If you are planning to sell your house or building, I recommend selecting a white or off-white color as the choice for walls. This will allow the buyer to easily cover the wall with their choice of color and will give your rooms a bright and clean appearance.

Significance Of Expert Service

As you can see selecting the right paint type and a color scheme can be quite complex and confusing. And we haven’t even talked about the different lighting during the day that will affect the colors on the wall. Most people don’t seem to have the eye for colors or experience to envision the end result, so hiring an expert seems like the best solution.

One of the most important aspects of a professional-looking paint job is pre-paint preparation. Dents, scratches, uneven surfaces will need to be repaired first, requiring a host of necessary tools and know-how. Seasoned painting experts know what types of paint should be applied where, the importance choosing the right colors for the space, and the importance of using quality products, and where to get them.

Selecting The Right One

There are a host of factors to consider when hiring a contractor, but selecting the best one for you does involve some detective work. First, you need to compile a list of painting contractors near you, check their availability and references, as well as the legitimacy in terms of licensing and insurance and finally the price. Lacking such credentials might mean a cheaper quote but will leave you at risk of paying for medical expenses and time off work should an accident occur on your premises, not to mention the potential of a less professional-looking outcome or leaving a job half done.
